The Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones and her colleagues were given a behind the scenes tour of one of Doncaster manufacturer Polypipe Building Products’s premises at Broomhouse Lane.
Polypipe Building Products is a well-known manufacturer of plastic piping systems for use in the residential sector.
Formed more than 40 years ago and now part of the Genuit Group Plc (previously Polypipe Group Plc), they employ more than 1000 team members across four Doncaster manufacturing sites and over 3500 employees in total.
Sustainability is at the core of their strategy, hence their recent investment that includes upgrading manufacturing equipment, converting their car fleet to electric and installing electric charging points on site, purchasing 24 biodiesel HGVs, introducing electric forklift trucks, implementing LED lighting across their premises and currently exploring the deployment of solar PV on site.
Increasing the use of recycled plastics has been another successful initiative and has led to employing dedicated recycling staff to process client product waste to reuse or recycle into products.
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster said: “Now more than ever, every business has a critical role to play in reaching our net-zero future and it is fantastic to see Polypipe Building Products and the wider Genuit Group committed to delivering on their environmental goals. The level of investment demonstrates just how serious they are in making the built environment more sustainable".
“We recognise local employers as the lifeblood of our economy, and we will do everything we can to support their efforts and help improve and create jobs”.
Matt Williams, Managing Director Polypipe Building Products said: “Over the years, we have seen a significant transformation to the business landscape. Our continued success is down to our commitment in building long-term relationships with our customers and partners, together with a dedication to our employees and the local community".
“We continue to invest in talent at every level, from technical to sales, to ensure we can satisfy and support our customer and supplier network. We have an amazing workforce, who are responsible for our growth and success over the last 40 years”
Polypipe Building Products is the UK’s leading manufacturer of plastic piping systems and low-carbon heating solutions for the residential market, and they are committed to becoming the leading provider of sustainable construction products whilst at the same time becoming a sustainable, low carbon business themselves.
The underfloor heating market is a key area of growth and one they are investing in heavily, due to the fact that underfloor heating solutions are more environmentally friendly than traditional heating solutions and play a key role in heating homes as we transition to a low carbon future.
