Doncaster business secures funding to expand and innovate

Techni Measure Ltd is a leader in the precision measurement industry, providing custom measurement systems, standard measurement products, calibration services, and technical support. Providing the highest level of technical and commercial support to a wide range of industries for more than 50 years.

Techni Measure, a private family business started by Frank and Betty Ramage is now currently owned and operated by the third generation of the family - Andrew Ramage and Stephen Brown.

Their sister company QUAD I, founded in 2018 is the innovative engineering solutions side of the business specialising in sensing products and associated systems built on the foundation of four key pillars: Intelligence, Insight, Innovation, and Integration. Established recently due to recognising a gap in the market, these pillars represent the core values that drive QUAD I to deliver exceptional solutions to their clients.

As part of their expansion, the goal was to establish a high-technology, high-specification electronics laboratory that would drive company growth and expand their client base. To facilitate this, QUAD I have recently secured one of the first Olympus Park units on the popular GatewayEast Development adjacent to Techni Measure.

With support from Business Doncaster on the application of recent business grants, it has enabled them to equip the new facility with state-of-the-art electronic testing and measurement instruments, advanced prototyping tools, and specialised workstations designed to support high-precision tasks and they’re aiming to be operational in the coming weeks with an official opening likely in the spring.

The UKSPF Productivity & Digitisation Grant scheme delivered by Business Doncaster has enabled the business to improve their ability to manage complex projects, reduce lead times, and increase their capacity to take on multiple customer contracts simultaneously. The enhanced laboratory will support more sophisticated R&D activities, foster innovation and enable the business to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving electronics industry.

The Grant also supported the purchase of specialist equipment required to implement an ESD-safe workspace and storage space, exceeding AS9100 standards, and create a best-in-class facility. This included an integrated ESD flooring system, complete with testing and logging capabilities, workbenches and electrical grounding systems, access control and monitoring systems, compressed air supply for workbenches and IT equipment to support the necessary precise manufacturing.

Councillor Glyn Jones said: “I work closely with local businesses and understand the challenges they face. These government grants aren’t just funding – they are often a lifeline, empowering businesses such as this to expand, innovate and create new opportunities and drive economic growth that will benefit everyone in our city. It is an honour to support initiatives that make such a tangible difference”.

For most of Techni Measure’s product lines, they are the sole UK and Ireland distributor, supplying a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace and defence, aviation, power and energy, food manufacturing, marine, medical, rail and many more.

As well as their own extensive range of control and measurement products Techni Measure has worked hard to build relationships with industry leading technology providers to assist and support in the integration of their sensors with a wide range of proprietary systems and bespoke designs.

In addition, both companies have been supported through an application for the UKSPF Low Carbon Grant and Rural England Prosperity Fund Grant.
