New MD appointed to strengthen Doncaster Communication Solutions business

Ninehundred Communications, now in its 45th year of trading is one of the largest independent suppliers and installers of high-quality two-way radio companies in the UK, diversifying also into 8 operational divisions covering a whole host of offerings across multiple disciplines.

The Doncaster head office includes a fully equipped workshop facility, installation bay, sales office, customer care operatives and a dedicated demonstration suite with a large Training Academy to showcase the latest advances in technologies. The head office is accompanied by the recent addition of a site solutions facility where the team create and build bespoke designs and customised site solutions equipment.

The business has recently appointed Kevin McEwen as new Managing Director to take over the day-to-day reigns of the business and navigate the company into the future with fresh ideas, enthusiasm as well as further modernisation of the business and diversification into new markets.

Kevin has a wealth of knowledge in the IT Sector, especially in the education space and has considerable experience in running successful companies so will be looking to grow the IT division focussing on education and cyber security. In 2015 the business shifted their focus to innovation and diversification, with a comprehensive suite of solutions beyond two-way radio, including cutting-edge offerings such as CCTV, lighting solutions, and a host of other innovative technologies.

In 2019 they began to invest a lot of time and resource into the rail sector…that opened a whole new world of innovative solutions targeted to this key industry. More recently, they have begun to dive into the world of IT, creating a new division to keep people connected and safe on the internet, along with focusing on schools keeping children safe and engaged in the classroom through their interactive hardware.

Building on its two-way radio business, the team now consists of a 96 strong workforce working across various industry types including Rail, Education, Events, Retail, Construction and Quarries providing services that include CCTV, IT Support (cloud-based services), Telematics (vehicle tracking) and voice/data.

Martyn’s Law is a great example of how the UK Government is changing the way events are run and Ninehundred is focusing on ensuring that venues take a proactive approach to the prevention of mass casualties and their offer of demonstrations on the entire threat prevention portfolio has been very well received. They recently provided the Grand National event organisers with Threat Detection solutions to aid with this law.

Business Doncaster recently supported the business with a successful bid for the Business Productivity and Digitisation Grant that was used to help fund a new website project. They have also assisted with introductions to local support services with regards to skills development, upskilling and recruitment and other local businesses where business synergies potentially exist.

With an overall vision to connect people and empower businesses, the business is keen to work in partnership with other local businesses and would welcome the chance to provide free advice and/or live demonstrations of threat detection solutions and event management to schools and large venues.
