Receive a warm Irish welcome at Doncasters newest venue The Temple

A brand-new hospitality and entertainment venue, The Temple, has recently opened in Doncaster city centre, with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations marking its strong Irish connection.

The Temple Irish Bar is family owned and operated with a rich history of operating some of the city’s most loved venues, more recently successfully managing O'Donegans Irish Bar on Hall Gate and Saddle and Shot located on Silver Street.

With the support of Business Doncaster, The Temple has received funding towards the project, including grants from the Space 2 Create fund and a Low Carbon Grant both awarded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Combined with a substantial amount of private investment, this ambitious £1 million venture aims to revitalise local buildings, attract visitors, and stimulate economic growth in Doncaster city centre. To date, the venue has created 35 new job vacancies.

Located facing the impressive Corn Exchange on the site of the historic Irish middle market, it’s a labyrinth of four unique spaces, each with its own atmosphere and personality, whether it be eating drinking or dancing. The front section of The Temple pays tribute to the area’s rich heritage with an authentic Irish Sports Bar, inspired by the historic ‘Irish Middle Market’ that once stood just outside its doors. Beyond the bar, it features an on-site ‘tap room’ where local beers are brewed, with interactive beer-making workshops available to the public.

The venue houses a Gastro Restaurant offering a full menu including Sunday lunch, with an offer for local chefs to become tenants, develop their skills and grow their businesses within a supportive environment. There is also live music 4 days a week, running from Thursday through to Sunday. Designed to be more than just a bar or restaurant, The Temple serves as a multi-purpose space for the local community, offering co-working areas for professionals, an events venue for private hire, and a creative hub for local artists and performers.

Live music, live sports, art exhibitions, and cultural events will all find a home at The Temple, further enriching Doncaster’s vibrant social and arts scene.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones visited the venue ahead of the opening day said “The Temple is a fantastic addition to Doncaster City Centre, combining heritage, innovation, and community spirit. It’s great to see such a significant investment in our city centre, and I look forward to seeing it flourish as a key destination for both residents and visitors.”

“We are incredibly excited to introduce The Temple to Doncaster,” said Christopher Coughlan, co-owner of The Temple. “This project is about more than just opening a venue—it’s about breathing new life into the city centre, supporting local talent, and creating a space where people can come together to enjoy great food, drink, and entertainment.”
