Reptile store celebrates successful first month in business

Bailey’s Reptile and Pet Supplies, based at Roberts Road Business Park in Balby, opened its doors on the 1st May 2020 with the store falling into one of the essential sectors allowed to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic. Owner, Bailey Newbury says: “I have been passionate about animals for as long as I can remember but the past 6 or 7 years I’ve been really interested in Reptiles having a few pet Reptiles at home including a Chameleon and a Ball Python. “Since moving out at 16 I’ve always wanted to have my own business and to work with animals so this is a dream come true for me. Over the past 4 to 5 years, I have been strategically saving and trying to earn as much money as possible in order to invest it into my own company. “At the beginning of February 2019 I started making my business plan and arranging which animals and products I would sell.” One thing Bailey may not have planned for is a global pandemic and when it came to launching his business he encountered a few unexpected issues. He says: “We had a few delays and hiccups due to the coronavirus but we have luckily been able to pull though and open. “I’ve mainly had issues due to deliveries being cancelled and companies closing which I needed to use so I then had to go and find other similar companies to carry out the jobs I had for the other companies.” Bailey realises that safety is of the upmost importance for customers at this time and is taking extra precautions. He says: “In terms of safety we’re following the social distancing measures by only allowing one group of people in at a time. “Every single person who comes in is offered hand sanitiser and this is available to them the whole time they are in the shop." The shop sells all different types of animals from Bearded Dragons and Snakes to Frogs and Tortoises. They have Tarantulas and scorpions too.
