University Campus Doncaster unveils state-of-the-art Gaming Hub

A new era of digital innovation and learning has arrived with the exciting launch of University Campus Doncaster and Doncaster College’s brand-new Gaming Hub and Esports suite.

Designed to elevate the learning experience for students in Higher Education (HE) Game Development and Further Education (FE) Esports courses, this cutting-edge facility is poised to be a game-changer in digital education and skills training.

Funded with a £300,000 investment from the Department for Education’s Skills Injection Fund, the Gaming Hub is a centre of potential for aspiring game developers, esports professionals, and digital creatives in the South Yorkshire region.

The newly refurbished space is more than just a group of gaming rooms—it’s a high-tech, industry-aligned environment where students can immerse themselves in the latest gaming technologies, fine-tune their skills, and collaborate on groundbreaking projects with their peers and industry experts.

Innovative design and industry-leading technology from the ground up, the Gaming Hub has been meticulously crafted to provide an optimal gaming and development experience. The remodel includes: High-spec gaming computers and consoles equipped to handle the demands of modern game design and competitive esports. Cutting-edge sound rooms to support game development and immersive sound design. Professional-grade accessories to ensure students train with industry-standard equipment. Optimised lighting and acoustics, enhancing immersion for both gamers and developers alike. A space built for creativity and comfort beyond its technical prowess, the Gaming Hub has been designed as a welcoming, inspiring space that fosters creativity and collaboration.

Key features include: Ergonomic gaming chairs and comfortable seating, ensuring long sessions remain enjoyable. Dynamic lighting and vibrant decor, creating an exciting and immersive gaming atmosphere. Gaming-themed branding elements, making the space feel like a true professional esports and game development hub. Adding further value, UCDon has also relocated its state-of-the-art sound recording studios from Doncaster College’s Stainforth campus to the new facility. This integration provides students specialising in sound design with top-tier resources to complement their education and training.

Nigel Pease, Deputy Head of University Campus Doncaster’s School of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Arts, excitedly shared, “This new space is all about fostering creativity, ambition, and a bright future in the industry. Moving our sound recording studios from Stainforth to this upgraded facility will give our sound design students access to industry-standard resources, helping them develop the skills they need to succeed.
